Often, small nonprofits do not have the resources necessary to fulfill their information technology needs. Serve IT is the bridge that connects IU students who have in-demand technology skills with the nonprofits who need them. The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering emphasizes the idea that we see what tomorrow can be, and we shape it every day. The Serve IT Clinic takes this as far as we can by teaching students to listen to the real needs of clients and community stakeholders and to build the tools they need to move forward and help clients learn to use them.
Student interns receive course credit and are placed on teams and matched with a nonprofit organization. These groups work to create websites, databases, provide graphic design, and computer hardware for organizations. We also send interns to afterschool clubs to teach local kids basic computer science standards through fun activities.
The Serve IT Clinic wouldn’t be what it is without our sponsors who help fund the clinic and provide a number of crucial resources.
The Serve IT Nonprofit Clinic is housed in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, and is a joint project with the Kelley School of Business and the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington.
